"But the fruit of the Spirit is... peace..."
Galatians 5:22 (emphasis added)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is... peace..."
Many people around the world want peace, but what is peace? Peace can mean an absence of conflict, an accord between 2 or more parties, or a state of mind when things are troubling. This is what the world looks for when it is searching for peace, and they are searching.
What does it mean for the Christian to bear this fruit of the spirit called peace? Peace between God and man was won on the cross, proven in the empty tomb, and assured to us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. That's not it. This fruit, like all the other fruit of the spirit is meant to be partaken of by others in our lives; that they would taste and see that the Lord is good. We find the answer in II Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." A "sound mind" is one that has peace in the storm. It's the discipline of relying on the Lord, focusing on Him, and leaving your burdens at the foot of the cross. This is what others will see and want, because without the Spirit, there is no peace.
