God is constant

“Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with Him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”” Exodus 34:5-7

I have heard people say that they like the God of the New Testament, but not the God of the Old Testament. This passage clearly shows that God is consistent and has the same heart and character throughout the whole Bible! This heart is revealed to Moses at a very low time for Israel when they fell into sin and rebellion.

Moses pled for God to continue to come with and lead Israel, and to also reveal Himself and His glory to Moses. This was God’s beautiful response! His character is tied to His glory and is full of grace, mercy, patience, forgiveness, goodness, truth, and Justice! This is the same heart revealed through Jesus in the New Testament! We serve a great, loving, gracious, and consistent God!
